Dr. Mariann Abrahám, pianist, president of EPTA Hungary, Budapest

Over the decades, the work of Dr. Géza Kovács ("Uncle Géza") has brought about a fundamental change in the approach of Hungarian piano teachers to their vocation. Today we know that the most important aspect of the relationship between people and music or a musical instrument is that we preserve our aptitude for this wonderful activity.

I myself personally experienced the fascinating abilities of Uncle Géza through an unusual circumstance. Due to serious overexertion, I developed inflammatory swelling in both of my wrists. The efforts of several hospitals to heal them were unsuccessful. Finally, Uncle Géza cured me through massage, and the deformation completely disappeared within two months.

Uncle Géza understud the human body's operations at the molecular level. This vast knowledge and his extraordinary pedagogical intuitiveness allowed him to compose his infinitely diverse physical exercises, always tailored to the particular person or conditions but always perfectly constructed.

The special value of these exercises lies partially in the fact that they help prevent stiffness and distortions caused by instrumental playing. At the same time they also prepare the playing apparatus for instrumental activity, cause the hands to be more dexterous, and quicken reaction time.

This incomparably great methodology should be known to as many of us as possible.
